Thailand to boost medical tourism in 2010

Medical Tourism and the number of clients coming to Phuket is already booming, and according to the The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), they will boost medical tourism to new levels in 2010.

Deputy Governor of the TAT’s Public Relations Division, Surapol Sawetserani said the TAT intends to promote medical tourism in the year 2010 with the cooperation from the private and public sectors.

President of the Thai Hotels Association, Prakit Chinamourphong said the medical tourism industry in Thailand has high prospects for expansion. Statistics showed that over 1.2 million tourists were seeking health care service in Thailand each year. The number is believed to reach 10 million within the next five years. Each service recipient together with those accompanying tended to spend at least 200,000 THB a trip, resulting in over 100 billion THB revenue gained in the Thai tourism industry.
