Recovery After Surgery

General Post Op Recovery Instructions:

• Take the medications as prescribed. Antibiotics should be taken after meals and drinking alcohol is not allowed during your antibiotic course.
• Swelling is to be expected. If you underwent eyelid or nose surgery, you can apply ice packs as needed.
• Compression garments are important after surgery. Please make sure to wear your garment around the clock especially in the first days post-op.
• If you have breast or face surgery, taking shower can be resumed right away. While for body contouring procedures, please discuss this with your surgeon.
• Light walking is encourage to prevent DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Engage to 5-15 mins walk every day.
• Your dressings and bandages must be kept clean and dry all the time.
• Practice good sun protection. Do not expose your arms to direct sunlight. If you go outdoors, apply at least an SPF 30 at least 30 minutes prior to sun exposure.
• Perform foot and leg exercises while you are on bedrest every 2-4 hours. This is applicable to breast, face and tummy tuck surgeries.
• Do not smoke and drink alcohol.
• Contact us if you have any of the following:
  • Fever greater than 100o F or 38.5o C.
  • Fresh bleeding, other than that of a minor nature. And any excessive bleeding that persists after pressure and lying down for 15 minutes.
  • Excessive and sudden swelling.
  • Pain not relieved by two pain relieving tablets.
